[ a show for pre-schoolers that has caught this 22 year old imagination! ]

Meet Blue!

This cute lil' puppy is the star of a show on Nick Jr. that I've become a fan of thanks to my sister, Natalie.  Sure, Nat is 17 and I'm 21, and the show is made for pre-schoolers, but how can you resist a show like this one?  Blue, and her friend Steve have adventures and figure things out on their own, and with television as stupid as it can be, pre-school programming like this is a huge relief to my cynical mind.

Blue's Clues is all computer animated.. and the ideas and concepts behind it are incredible.  They test each episode three different times to make sure it's entertaining and relative to pre-schoolers, and they foster thinking skills, self-esteem and having fun, too.  The part that impresses me the most is that they run the same episode for all showings in a week.  While that seems like a mistake at first, think about how repetative young children are.. and seeing the same things over for a week helps them master the skills.

Meet Steve!

This is Steve Burns, the only 'live' human you see in Blue's Clues.  Since BC is almost completely computer animated, Steve spends all his time taping in front of a blue screen much like your TV weather forecaster does on the news at night.  Then they add Steve into the computer animation they do.

Steve is awesome.. and without him, I don't know if BC would be half as successful.  All during the show, he talks to the camera, as if he were really talking to the kids who are watching.  He sings, he dances.. he wears spiffy green striped shirts, and he's cute!  ; )

Meet Mr. Salt and Mrs. Pepper!

Blue's Clues has lots of smaller characters, as well.  Mr. Salt and Mrs. Pepper ( and their baby, Paprika ) help out in the kitchen and with finding clues.  Magenta is Blue's best friend, Pail and Shovel, Tickety, the Felt Friends, Mail Box, Slippery Soap, Calendar Girl and a quiet snail are all Blue's friends who help figure out what the clues are in various episodes.
